Description
Damp proof course (DPC) is a horizontal barrier in a wall designed to prevent moisture rising through the structure by capillary action. It is a critical component in building construction, commonly made of materials such as bituminous felt, plastic, slate, or metal.
Damp proof course is typically installed at a minimum of 150mm above ground level to protect the interior spaces from dampness, which can cause structural damage and mold growth.
ADVANTAGE:
- Prevents Moisture Infiltration: Stops water from rising through walls.
- Reduces Mold and Mildew: Keeps moisture out, preventing growth.
- Enhances Durability: Protects walls and foundations from water damage.
- Improves Air Quality: Reduces damp-related health risks.
- Increases Property Value: Ensures a dry, stable structure.
- Cost-Effective: Prevents expensive repairs and maintenance.
AREA OF APPLICATION:
- Foundations: To prevent moisture from rising through the base of walls.
- Walls: Embedded in masonry to block water ingress and protect the building fabric.
- Basements: To keep groundwater from penetrating into basement walls and floors.
- External Walls: Ensures protection against ground moisture in exterior walls.
- Floor Slabs: Prevents moisture from affecting internal floors.
- Extensions and Renovations: Incorporated into new and existing structures to maintain moisture control.
